Samana

Samana Peninsula – the full name of Santa Barbara de Samana, located on the Atlantic coast in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. He is known for its mountains, which cover the entire area. Samana has numerous beaches, and the November 2006 opened a new international airport Samana El Catey. Samana Peninsula was discovered January 12, 1493 by Christopher Columbus, who was met by a hail of spears and arrows from the Taino tribal warriors. He said that this was the first violent confrontation between the Spanish conquistadors in America.

Samana is one of the most beautiful areas of the Dominican Republic, but remains one of the least known and most popular tourist destinations. Its tourism industry is just beginning to develop. Samana is one of popular destinations of humpback whales mating. Thousands of whales come to the Samana Bay from January to March. At one time it was suggested that Samana capital of the country. Just Samana was to be sold to the US as a military base during the reign of Pedro Santana, but the deal has not been implemented because the United States has decided that the cost is too overpriced.

Highway connecting the peninsula of Samana and Santo Domingo opened in 2008. This is twice saves
